Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), attached to Madurai Medical College, stands as one of the largest and most esteemed government healthcare institutions in South India. Established in 1940, it has been a beacon of hope and healing for millions in the Madurai region, Tamil Nadu, and neighboring Puducherry.
Spread over 125 acres, the hospital complex houses 2,217 beds and serves over 1,500 outpatients daily. GRH functions as a tertiary care referral center, equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology and staffed by a dedicated team of specialists, resident doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff.

GRH provides well-maintained general wards, semi-private, and private rooms. Specialized intensive care units (Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, Cardiac ICU, Neuro ICU, Pediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU) are staffed 24/7 by trained intensivists and critical care nurses. The hospital has a centralized oxygen supply, modern ventilators, and continuous monitoring systems.
Outpatient Services
Over 50 specialty and super-specialty OPDs function on a daily basis. Online appointment system reduces waiting time. Pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology services are co-located for patient convenience. Separate OPD blocks for General Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Super-specialties.
Diagnostic Services

Government Rajaji Hospital is the teaching hospital for the prestigious Madurai Medical College (MMC), established in 1954. MMC is one of the top-ranked government medical colleges in India, offering undergraduate (MBBS), postgraduate (MD/MS), and super-specialty (DM/MCh) courses.
The hospital provides an immersive clinical learning environment for over 1200 medical students and 400 resident doctors.
